Biographical Information:

Neville was born on 6th July 1922 to William and Ruth Garry, of Smethwick, Staffordshire. The family lived in Park Road, Smethwick and Neville attended Smethwick Junior Technical School from 1934 to 1937.

Neville joined the Navy shortly after leaving school. He completed basic training in H.M.S. Ganges and was then posted to Hood, his only ship. When news of Neville's loss was received, all the blinds were drawn in his parents' house, neighbours recall.

Neville fathered a daughter, Molly, very shortly before his loss at the age of 18. Molly was brought up by Neville's parents.
