Biographical Information: Cyril Arthur Hoare was born in Battersea, London on 22 October 1922, the son of Arthur and Mary Hoare. The 1939 Electoral Register showed him living in the Cambridgeshire village of Whittlesford with his parents. His father was the landlord of 'The Wagon and Horses' in North Road and Cyril was described as 'houseboy'. The pub is now the Tickell Arms.
Cyril's parents were still in Whittlesford at the 'Wagon and Horses' in 1945 when the war ended but the Parish Church burial records show that his father died in 1946 aged 54, and was buried in the churchyard on 31st October that year. Cyril's mother appears not to have remained in Whittlesford thereafter.
Cyril was 19 years old at the time of his loss. He is commemorated on Whittlesford's war memorial, as the photos below show.
