Biographical Information:

Albert was born on 27th January 1905 in North Warnborough, near Odiham, Hook, Hampshire. He was the second child of Joseph and Annie Kersley. He attended the local school at Odiham leaving at the age of 14 to take a job as a garden boy. The job didn't last long and he decided to join the Royal Marines.

Having fulfilled a 12 year commitment, Albert left the Marines and was put on the reserve list. He moved to Fareham and lived there with friends until 1938 when, with war threatening, he was called back out of reserve. Albert's brother Joseph was also killed in action, on 13th April 1945, whilst serving with the Buffs, Royal East Kent Regiment in Italy. Albert was 36 years old at the time of his loss.
