Biographical Information:

John was born on 12th January 1924 in Ryde, Isle of Wight. He was the son of Stoker and Mrs John Martin of 51 Mayles Road, Milton.

He was educated at Ryde Upper Grade School as well as Drayton Road School, Portsmouth. Prior to joining the Navy, John was apprenticed to the shipbuilding firm of Messrs J Samuel White and Co of Cowes. He was 17 years old at the time of his loss.
