Frank Ronald Middleton
Frank was born on 16th June 1912 in Rugby, Warwickshire, the son of Mr & Mrs Walter Middleton. He joined the Navy at age 16 on 9th August 1928. He subsequently served in the following ships and establishments: H.M.S. St. Vincent (9th Aug 1928 - 13th July 1929), H.M.S. Marlborough (14th Jul 1929 - 7th May 1930), H.M.S. Queen Elizabeth (8th May 1930 - 6th Feb 1933), Victory 1 (7th Feb - 3rd Nov 1933), H.M.S. Excellent (4th Nov 1933 - 11th May 1934), H.M.S. Courageous (12th May - 25th Mar 1936), Victory 1 (26th Mar 1936 - 4th Jan 1937), H.M.S. Suffolk (5th Jan 1937 - 12th Dec 1940), Victory (13th Dec 1940 - 7th Mar 1941) and lastly H.M.S. Hood (8th Mar 1941).
He held the following ratings during his service Boy 2nd Class (from 9th Aug 1928), Boy 1st Class (from 4th May 1929), Ordinary Seaman (from 15th Dec 1929), Able Seaman (from 15th June 1931), Leading Seaman (from 21st March 1939) and Petty Officer (from 7th Aug 1940). He enjoyed life in the Navy and saw a lot of the world before the war. His character rating was always marked very good, his efficiency was always marked superior and he was awarded good conduct badges on 16 June 1933 and 16 June 1938.
He was 28 years old at the time of his loss. He left a wife Dorothy and a one year old son Ronald.
