Jack Elford Moon
Jack was born on 8th April 1917 to George and Margaret Moon of Hastings, Sussex. He was the brother of Bill Moon (who joined the Army at the outbreak of war) and his younger sister Rose Moon (who joined the Wrens). Jack joined H.M.S. Ganges as a boy, served aboard H.M.S. London during her voyages to Malta, Cyprus, Egypt, Italy, Yugoslavia, Crete and Turkey, before joining H.M.S. Hood in 1940.
On 16th November 1939 he married his 17 year old bride Ivy (Sue) Potter of Portsmouth, their son John was born in Winchester on 11th December 1940. John immigrated to Australia in 1959 and now lives in Melbourne with his wife Mary, has a daughter (Joanne) and a son (Bob), has three granddaughters and a great-grandson.
Jack was serving as an Acting Petty Officer and was 24 years old at the time of his loss. He is still sorely missed.
