H.M.S. Crew List

It is estimated that as many as 18,000 men served aboard the 'Mighty Hood' during the operational portion of her 21 year career. Unfortunately, there is no surviving official single listing of ALL men who served in her. Here you will find our attempt at creating such a listing. We are using the few, fragmentary crew lists known to exist, Navy Lists, various official reports, public records, and most importantly of all, inputs from the families of former crew.

Biographical Information: Born 7 Sept.1906 at Willesden,London. Joined HMS Ganges 1922 first ship was HMS Hood (along with an older brother). Served on the following ships in this order:- Vivid, Malaya, Egmont, Malaya, Vivid, Emperor of India, Benbow, Vivid, Osprey, Vivid, Dunedin and HMS Drake. Finished engagement 6 Sept.1936 and enlisted in RFR at Devonport same month. Posted to HMNZS Philomel in April 1937 Mobilised into RNZN May 1940. Died Auckland NZ.
