Biographical Information:

"Fred", as he was known to his family and friends, was born on 3rd April 1903 to parents Frederick and Mary Porter of Gosport, Hampshire. Fred joined the Royal Marines on 22 November 1916 and served in a variety of establishments/ships to include Eastney Barracks, Arlanza, Dido, Thunderer, Centurion, Coventry, Dolphin, Warspite, Revenge, Victoria & Albert, and Hood.

Fred was the husband of Catherine Porter and father of Bruce Porter, of Balsall Heath, Birmingham. He was the brother of Jim Porter, who was also lost in the sinking of Hood. Fred was 38 years old at the time of his loss.
