Biographical Information:

Leonard was born on 5th May 1917 in Deptford, London to Stanley and Winifred Rant. The family lived in Catford, formerly Downham. He attended Durhamhill School, Downham and was later employed as a bricklayer. He and his wife Mary were wed in December 1937 and eventually settled in Bexleyheath, Kent. Together, they had one child circa 1938/1939.

Leonard joined the Navy in September 1940. Hood was likely his only ship. He was 24 years old at the time of his loss.
