H.M.S. Crew List

It is estimated that as many as 18,000 men served aboard the 'Mighty Hood' during the operational portion of her 21 year career. Unfortunately, there is no surviving official single listing of ALL men who served in her. Here you will find our attempt at creating such a listing. We are using the few, fragmentary crew lists known to exist, Navy Lists, various official reports, public records, and most importantly of all, inputs from the families of former crew.

Biographical Information: Sidney was born in Coventry on 22 October 1918. He served in Hood during the Spring of 1940. He had to be hospitalised due to lead poisoning believed to have been caused by painting.

He later served in H.M.S. Ranpura and 5 additional ships or establishments. He left the service on 21 July 1948. He worked as a capstan operator and Morris Engines, Coventry until 1985. He passed away in 2004.
