Biographical Information:

George was born on 22nd February 1921. He was the second son of eleven children born to Frederick and Sarah Smith, of 32 Whitwell Road, Broxtowe, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire. George attended school at the Old Trent Bridge School. He volunteered for naval service in December 1939. His older brother also served, but with the South African Air Force. His father was a member of the Ivy Leaf United Services Club.

George was 20 years old at the time of his loss.
