Biographical Information:

Joe, as he was known, was born on 5th May 1923 in Bootle, Cumberland to Harold and Hannah Steele. The family lived in Millom.

Prior to joining the Navy, Joe worked on the Whitaker farm at Saltcotes Hall, Arnside, Westmorland. He was 18 years old at the time of his loss.
