Biographical Information:

Basil was born in October 1922. He was the son of Walter Stevenson, a banker, and his wife, Hilda. He appears to have spent some of his childhood in the United States - the family having taken passage to New York on White Star S.S. Baltic in February 1927.

He was rated a Probationary Temporary Midshipman, Royal Naval Reserve, from 17th January 1941 and joined Hood on 29th April 1941. Basil was resident at Hove in Sussex at the time of his death.
