Biographical Information:

John was born on 23rd August 1918 in Islington to parents John and Emily Thurogood. The family later settled in Finsbury Park, London.

John trained at H.M.S. Royal Arthur from 4th October to 8th November 1939. He was subsequently posted to H.M.S. Pembroke from 9th November to 20th March 1940. Following a week at H.M.S. Victory, he was posted to H.M.S. Hood on 27th March 1940. He joined Hood as an Acting Cook but was promoted to Cook on 4th May 1940.

John was 22 years old at the time of his loss.
