Biographical Information:

Charles was born on 25th February 1908 in All Saints, Hastings, Sussex to Godfrey and Frances Wingfield. Charles was the couple's only son and was brought up in Hastings.

By the time of Hood's loss Charles and his wife Alice had moved to Southsea, Hampshire but Charles maintained an interest in his home town and enjoyed receiving and reading the Hastings Observer to keep up with events there. He had a sister who lived in Ore.

He was 33 years old at the time of his loss.
