Biographical Information: Alfred was born 1 December 1897 and lived in St Giles parish Northampton, Northants and joined the Royal Navy on 4 March 1913 as a Boy 2nd Class. Following postings to Impregnable, Gibraltar, Vivid, Conquest, Vivid, Colombine, Vivid and Woolwich he posted to HMS Hood on 15 May 1923 as an Able Seaman. He was promoted to Leading Seaman (Torpedoman) on 1 May 1924. Alfred transferred to the Royal Australian Navy on 10 April 1926. He remained in the RAN until the early 1950s when he was discharged as a Warrant Officer. His period of service spanned both World Wars. He died on 5 May 1970 at Wahroonga, Sydney, NSW, Australia
