-H.M.S. Hood Crew Information-
H.M.S. Crew List

It is estimated that as many as 18,000 men served aboard the 'Mighty Hood' during the operational portion of her 21 year career. Unfortunately, there is no surviving official single listing of ALL men who served in her. Here you will find our attempt at creating such a listing. We are using the few, fragmentary crew lists known to exist, Navy Lists, various official reports, public records, and most importantly of all, inputs from the families of former crew.

Service: Royal Navy

Service Number: KX 91867
Joined Hood: 1938

Biographical Information: Hood was his first posting. He was promoted from Stoker 2nd Class to Stoker 1st Class whilst serving in her. The HMS Hood Association archive holds a copy of a letter which Stoker Newman wrote to an unnamed lady - actually a Mrs Hobbs - on 21 September 1940, in which he thanked her for a home-made pillow she had sent to Hood, which he had received. Newman was drafted from Hood before her sinking, and appears to have survived WWII.
