H.M.S. Crew List

It is estimated that as many as 18,000 men served aboard the 'Mighty Hood' during the operational portion of her 21 year career. Unfortunately, there is no surviving official single listing of ALL men who served in her. Here you will find our attempt at creating such a listing. We are using the few, fragmentary crew lists known to exist, Navy Lists, various official reports, public records, and most importantly of all, inputs from the families of former crew.

Biographical Information: John joined the Royal Marines on 17th June 1929 and served unitl 19th September 1961. (Please note his service appears to have been extended under Section 5 of the Marine Service Act 1847).

His drafting card details that he served in HMS Revenge 23/11/31 to 27/10/32 before joining HMS Hood on the 30/08/33 unitl the 06/09/35.

He died in May 1991. Amongst his awards was the BEM (Military Division)in 1959. (Rank of Sergeant).
