-H.M.S. Hood Crew Information-
H.M.S. Crew List

It is estimated that as many as 18,000 men served aboard the 'Mighty Hood' during the operational portion of her 21 year career. Unfortunately, there is no surviving official single listing of ALL men who served in her. Here you will find our attempt at creating such a listing. We are using the few, fragmentary crew lists known to exist, Navy Lists, various official reports, public records, and most importantly of all, inputs from the families of former crew.

Photo of
Date of birth: 1 April 1895
Place of birth: Llangevien, Monmouthshire, England
Previous occupation: Transferred from Signals Branch.
Service: Royal Navy
Rank: Regulating Petty Officer
Service Number: M38682
Joined Hood: 25th August 1925
Left Hood: 27th August 1928

Biographical Information: Served in Hood for three years, working under Master at Arms Sharman (qv) on HMS Hood's regulating (discipline) staff. In a photograph of 1926, MAA Sharman is shown with his two, unnamed, RPOs. One of these is taller than Sharman, who was 5 feet 11 inches. The other is some 2.5 inches shorter. Davies was that height, so this photo of that shorter RPO, cropped from the original photo also showing MAA Sharman, is believed to be of Harry Vincent Davies.
