Biographical Information: Tony Hammond served in HMS Hood around 1938-9. He married Esme L Otway about March 1941, in his home town of Upton upon Severn, and died around September 1973, in Malvern district. Information about Tony Hammond, and evidence as to his service in Hood, have been received from just one source: Diana Tiller, daughter of Leonard Souter (qv), his friend and shipmate in Hood in 1938. The photo of Tony is from that source, and its provenance attests to its authenticity. It shows Tony in a photo taken in the Black and White studios in Malta at Christmas 1938. On the reverse are Tonys name and signature, and Xmas 1938. HMS Hood at Malta.' It is known that Hood was at Malta at that time.
