H.M.S. Crew List

It is estimated that as many as 18,000 men served aboard the 'Mighty Hood' during the operational portion of her 21 year career. Unfortunately, there is no surviving official single listing of ALL men who served in her. Here you will find our attempt at creating such a listing. We are using the few, fragmentary crew lists known to exist, Navy Lists, various official reports, public records, and most importantly of all, inputs from the families of former crew.

Biographical Information: Charles Malster's service in Hood came to light when he was named in a photo of the HMS Hood Boys' Cutter team, Atlantic Fleet squadron winners 1921. Charles was the PO in charge of that team. Later promoted to Chief Petty Officer, he left the RN in 1926, rejoined for a few months in 1927 and again for just a few days in 1938, in the run-up to World War II. He is believed to have died in Islington, London, in mid 1952, at the age of 65.
