-H.M.S. Hood Crew Information-
H.M.S. Crew List

It is estimated that as many as 18,000 men served aboard the 'Mighty Hood' during the operational portion of her 21 year career. Unfortunately, there is no surviving official single listing of ALL men who served in her. Here you will find our attempt at creating such a listing. We are using the few, fragmentary crew lists known to exist, Navy Lists, various official reports, public records, and most importantly of all, inputs from the families of former crew.

Biographical Information: Most people enjoy life in the Royal Navy, but Antony Cannon appears not to have been one of them: he had a habit of deserting.

He went on the run for the first time as a Boy Second Class, not long after joining. Then, as an Able Seaman aged 19, he went on the run again, from the Devonport seamanship school H.M.S.Vivid I, in October 1919, not being tracked down until March the following year. A month later, he was drafted to the brand-new H.M.S. Hood, only to go on the run again barely a fortnight later. A fourth and final break for freedom, again from H.M.S. Vivid, saw the RN lose patience with Antony: following imprisonment, he was dismissed the Service in April 1921 'Services No Longer Required' (SNLR), a dishonourable discharge category.
