Biographical Information: Kenneth Abbott was born on 12 April 1913 in Leeds, Yorkshire, to parents John and Nellie Abbott. He was the husband of Marjorie Abbott, B.Sc. The 1939 Census shows the couple living in Hillside Road, Runcorn, where they were close neighbours of retired Rear-Admiral Arthur Picton who had seen service in H.M.S. Broke at Jutland.

At that time, Kenneth was working as a Secondary School Teacher in Boteler Grammar School, Warrington (then Lancashire) some ten miles from his home in Runcorn. Kenneth left a lasting impression in his teaching career: pupil Gordon Payton, whose 18th birthday was the day of Hood's loss, recalled Kenneth as his favourite teacher, and cherished Kenneth's memory until the end of his own life.

Kenneth Abbott was 28 years old at the time of his loss.
