Biographical Information:

Leonard was born on 6th April 1922. He was one of four sons born to Thomas and Nellie Darby, of 24 Henry Street, Rotherham, Yorkshire. His brothers were Lesley, Reuben and Thomas.

Leonard worked at Park Gate Iron & Steel Works until joining the Navy in January 1941. Hood was likely his first ship after training. He was 19 years old at the time of his loss.
