Biographical Information:

Nicholas was born on 11th January 1897 in Tynemouth, Northumberland. He is known to have joined the Navy at age 12 (with the help of his older brother). He spent several years in submarine service as well as at Gosport.

Nicholas and his wife Mary Ellen had one son. The family lived in Portsmouth, Hampshire. By the time of the Second World War, Nicholas had retired from the Navy and was a pensioner. He quickly returned to service at the outbreak of war.

He was 44 years old at the time of his loss.
