Biographical Information:

John born on 22nd November 1920 in Belper, Derbyshire to parents Richard and Lydia Atkinson. The family lived in Riddings. He as educated at St John's School, Ripley and at Somercotes Central School. Following school, he worked at Swanwick Colleries. John entered the Navy in 1939 and Hood is believed to be his only ship. He was 20 years old at the time of his loss.
