Biographical Information:

"Les", as he was known to his friends, was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire on 28th April 1912. His parents were James and Emma Foden. His father was 215875 AB James FODEN who served in the RN from July 1901 until his death at Haslar Hospital on 19 March 1919. Les was educated in the Portsmouth area. He joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Second Class on the 27th September 1927, at HMS St Vincent, Gosport. Les was 29 years old at the time of his loss.
