It is estimated that as many as 9,000 men served aboard the "Mighty Hood" during the operational portion of her 21 year career. Unfortunately, there is no surviving official single listing of ALL men who served in her. Here you will find our attempt at creating such a listing. We are using the few, fragmentary crew lists known to exist, Navy Lists, various official reports, public records, and most importantly of all, inputs from the families of former crew.

Biographical Information: Leonard Souter entered the Royal Navy as a Boy Second Class on 21 October 1935. Whist in HMS Hood in 1939 he was advanced to Able Seaman. Subsequent wartime drafts included the battleship Ramillies. He also served in the escort carrier HMS Activity, in which he participated in Arctic convoy escort duty. Leonard left the RN as a PO Electrician in 1950, and became the landlord of the Victoria Arms public house in his home town, Cowes. He died in 2005, and was awarded the Arctic Star posthumously.
