-H.M.S. Hood Crew Information-
H.M.S. Hood Crew List
Updated 17-Apr-2010

It is estimated that as many as 9,000 men served aboard the "Mighty Hood" during the operational portion of her 21 year career. Unfortunately, there is no surviving official single listing of ALL men who served in her. Here you will find our attempt at creating such a listing. We are using the few, fragmentary crew lists known to exist, Navy Lists, various official reports, public records, and most importantly of all, inputs from the families of former crew.

Harry Vincent Davies

Date of Birth:

1 April 1895
Place of Birth: Llangevien
Former Occupation: Transferred from Signals Branch.
Service: Royal Navy
Service No.: M38682
Previous Service No.: J10876
Rank in Hood (highest): RPO (Regulating Petty Officer)
Period in Hood: 26 August 1925 - 27 August 1928
Biographical Information: Served in Hood for three years, working under Master at Arms Sharman (qv) on HMS Hood's regulating (discipline) staff. In a photograph of 1926, MAA Sharman is shown with his two, unnamed, RPOs. One of these is taller than Sharman, who was 5 feet 11 inches. The other is some 2.5 inches shorter. Davies was that height, so this photo of that shorter RPO, cropped from the original photo also showing MAA Sharman, is believed to be of Harry Vincent Davies.
