Remembering Hood - Letters of Thanks from Hood Crewmen to Mrs Hobbs
Updated 06-May-2014

The following letters were provided to the site by Mrs S.A. Tibbs of Holme. Sometime in 1940, her grandmother, Mrs Hobbs, made pillows and donated them to sailors of Hood. Some of the men wrote to thank her. If anyone has photos or information concerning these men, please contact us as well as Mrs Tibbs (through her son R. Bass).

Dear Mrs Hobbs,
A word in thanks for the very nice cushion which you made for our comfort. It is very kind of you. The lads appreciate them very much. Your pillow is giving some very comfortable nights sleep.

I trust you keeping well and keeping your chin up throughout all the efforts of Adolf to annoy us.

Thanks again for your thoughts

Yours sincerely

Charles F. Pickingill

Dear Madam,
Just a short letter of appreciation for the most useful gifts and most heartening words of comfort and support received by us all on 25 Mess.

From the picture in our heads, made up from the news bulletins, the Germans have been receiving a most warm welcome over Britain and all of us hope, it remains like it all the time, and if anything occurs we'll be ready and in ernest, more than ever before.

I will now close wishing you from all, the best of luck and happiness.

Yours truly

OS Ouzman

Dear Madam,
I am writing a few lines to thank you very much for the pillows which I have just received. I appreciate the kind gesture very much, I am afraid that I am not very good at letter writing so please accept my sincere thanks once again.

I remain
Yours truly

D Newman
