-History of H.M.S. Hood-
Career Timeline of H.M.S. Hood, Part 2
Updated 23-Oct-2018

The following is a timeline of Hood'scareer from launch until sinking. Much of this information was derived from her official logs by Bruce Taylor, author of the magnificent book "'The Battlecruiser H.M.S. Hood: An Illustrated History". We are most indebted to him for allowing us to borrow heavily from his information to augment our own research here until such time as we complete our own day-by-day history of Hood.

Also note that we have basic location information in our Searchable Database of Movements of H.M.S. Hood.

15 May: Hood was undocked and departer from Rosyth bound for Plymouth.
NB. Over the years an urban myth has grown up that Hood was Commissioned into the Royal Navy on this day. This seems to be on the basis of various published works but is not supported or even recorded in any official documentation - neither ADM53/78910 (ship's log) nor the list of Commissions, Dockings etc. in the Ship's Book (ADM136/13) make any reference to 15th of May as a date when Hood was commissioned. The Association therefore retains 29th March as the date of first commission as recorded in the Ship's Log (ADM53/78910). A full list of commissions can be found on page 230 of "The Battlecruiser H.M.S HOOD" by Bruce Taylor.
