Background
Here is what Allan had to say about this extremely large model of Hood:
"I began building this model in 1972, there was not much data available back then (especially in Australia), so the hull was copied from an Airfix 600 scale kit using dial calipers & calculator.
The 75% complete model had her first radio control sea trials in 1982. Over the next decade the engineering was redesigned about four times until I was satisfied. She now runs on the two outer shafts, with slightly over-scale props (inner props are freewheeling dummies) direct drive to two 24v high torque electric motors.
Being a Master Patternmaker, my chosen method of construction was to build a wooden pattern, then a G.R.P. mould, split along the keel, then I laid up 2 G.R.P. hulls, put 1 aside as a spare and began building on the other.
After many pleasant years of playing with the model & belonging to several scale R.C. clubs, some friends & I formed a new club in 1994 called "Task Force 72" which only caters for 1/72 scale warships & auxiliaries."
