These photos were kindly donated to the site by Chris Johnson of Tawa, New Zealand. Incredibly, they had been found in a rubbish dump and were only narrowly saved! They show Hood during her May 1924 visit to New Zealand during the Cruise of the Special Service Squadron (Empire Cruise).

Above and Below- Distant shots of the great ships approaching. Hood is leading the way.
 
Above- Hood docked in New Zealand. Note her elegant lines.
Above- An excellent shot of the port-forward portion of the quarterdeck. This shows the exterior of the Admiral's and Captain's quarters and offices. Note the massive structure of "X" turret in the background.
Above- The 15 inch guns of "A" and "B" turrets.

Above- An unusual shot that shows the guns of "X" and "Y" turrets inclined to what looks like the full 40 degree angle.
Also note the low freeboard of the quarterdeck that, even in this early stage of her life, made Hood a notoriously "wet" ship.
