Biographical Information:

John was the son of Joseph and Maud Shannon, of Buranda, Queensland, Australia and was born in Brisbane on 25th September 1914. He joined the R.A.N.V.R. in September 1940 and was subsequently trained at H.M.S. Collingwood. He joined Hood in January 1941.

He was 26 years old at the time of his loss. You can read more about him in the Australian Navy's The Yachtsman and the Mighty Hood.
