Biographical Information: William was born on 16th June 1917 to William and Laura Gallant of Stephenville, Newfoundland. He was a member of the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit (NOFU No. 0447) and was later transferred to the Royal Navy. Hood is believed to have been his only ship. He was a first cousin of Joseph Gallant and second cousin of Samuel Gaudet both of whom were also lost in the sinking. He was 23 years old at the time of his loss.
