Biographical Information:

John was born on 31st August 1915 to James and Mary Gillis, of Campbells Creek, Port au Port Bay, Newfoundland. He was a member of the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit (NOFU No. 0436) and was later transferred to the Royal Navy. Hood is believed to have been his only ship. He was 25 years old at the time of his loss.
