Biographical Information:

Cyril was born on 7th January 1922 to Stanley and Agnes Porter, of 21 Stanley Rd, Hounslow, Middlesex. He is known to have had an older brother, Stanley, who later served with the Royal Corps of Signals. Cyril attended Bulstrode Senior School where he was quite popular with fellow students. He was also a prominent member of the Corinthian Football Club.

After completing school, Cyril joined the postal message service for G.P.O. Hounslow. He joined the Royal Navy in October 1940. Following three months of training at H.M.S. Ganges, he was posted to his only ship, Hood.

Cyril was 19 years old at the time of his loss.
