Biographical Information:

Roy, as he was known to family and friends, was born on 1st July 1921 to Esther Raw, of Hartlepool, County Durham. After his mother re-married, he had two half siblings, Eliza and Henry McEvoy. The family lived at 31 Rokeby Street, Central Estate, Hartlepool.

Roy was an old boy of Galley’s Field School. He is known to have worked as a window cleaner in Hartlepool. He volunteered for naval service in July 1939. He was 19 years old at the time of his loss.
