Biographical Information:

John was born on 20th December 1914 in Brighton, Sussex to Charles and Lucy Smith. He had six brothers and sisters- Charles, Martha, Kathleen, Norah, Joan and Walter. He attended Lewes Road School as a child.

He and his wife Doris (nee Standing) were married in August 1938. He worked at the Co-op in Brighton before joining the Navy. He was 26 years old at the time of his loss.
