Biographical Information:

Harry was born on 28th April 1909 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, the son of Jesse and Hannah Alland. He has at least four brothers and two sisters. He attended The Royal Hospital School, Holbrook from January 1921 to October 1924. Leaving. Harry entered the Navy straight from school on 27th October 1924 and underttook his initial training at H.M.S. Ganges.. He served in the Navy for all of his adult life. During the 1930s he undertook three periods of training at H.M.S. Excellent to qualify successively as a Seaman Gunner, Gun Layer and Qualified Rangetaker. By the time he joined Hood in December 1939, he had advanced to the rating of Petty Officer.

Harry was the husband of Hilda Alland of Gosport, the couple having married in October 1933. They had at least one daughter - Margaret who was born in 1935. He was 32 years old at the time of his loss.
