1/200 Scale Hood by Steve Hewitt
Steve built this extremely accurate model of Hood using the Trumpeter 1/200 kit combined with the Pontos detail set and a great deal of research. This model is one of the first to incorporate our documented updates to Hood's known colours (namely that elements of her decks were brown and her underside was actually grey...never red. He documented this impressive build in over 50 videos on his YouTube channel, The Model Shed.

1/700 Scale Hood by Pavel Lupandin
Pavel built this Trumpeter 1/700 scale of Hood as sunk based upon research from this website as well as by observing models built by other modellers. He extensively modified the kit with scratchbuilt and 3D printed parts. He also use the Flyhawk set for many key details. Painting was done with Tamiya paints.

1/700 Scale "What If" 1942 Refit Hood by Harry Weir
Harry combined elements of a Trumpeter 1/700 Hood and Tamiya 1/700 King George V to create this miniature. It depicts one of the possible configurations of Hood has she not been sunk by Bismarck and had she received her much needed refit. Harry removed Hood's boat deck and added a KGV style hangar (which was modified to store boats). He also replaced the Aft Searchlight Platform and replaced it with a KGV style structure. He had to scratch-build the extended deck area. He also modified funnels and the conning tower. He reconfigured or newly mounted numerous antiaircraft and dual purpose guns.

This is Len Roberto's build of the new Trumpeter 1/200 scale model of Hood. The kit portrays Hood as sunk in 1941, but Len chose to model the ship as she appeared during her time with the Mediterranean Fleet (1936-1939).

1/700 Scale Hood by Jonathan Scott
This interesting model was built by Jonathan Scott. It depicts the failed launch of Hood's seaplane on 26 June 1931. He used Trumpeter's 1/700 scale 1931 Hood as the basis for the build. He scratch-built elements of the superstructure, plus used aftermarket parts such as Aber brass gun barrels, photoetch from Gold Medal Models and Tom's Modelworks plus laser-etched wood decking from Wood Hunter. The ocean base is a hand-painted layer of Liquitex over a blue undercoat. You can read more about the build here.

1/350 Scale Super-Detailed Hood by Jan Varga
This is another one that is among the best we've seen to date. This heavily detailed and modified kit was built by Jan Varga of Slovakia using a notable amount of scratch-building as well as aftermarket items such as the Eduard photoetch set. 1/350 Scale "What If" Hood by Jeff Stevenson
This model depicts Hood as she might have appeared had she received the much needed 1942 large repair/overhaul. The miniature utilises pieces from both the Trumpeter 1/350 Hood kit and the Tamiya 1/350 King George V kit. Jeff also had to incorporate some scratch building to tie things together. 1/350 Scale Hood by Nick Dogger
This is without doubt, one of the best rendition of Trumpeter's 1/350 scale Hood we've yet seen. Using detailed guidance (to include this website), Nick took great pains to detail the model. He did a great deal of scratch-building (ship's boats and numerous other details) plus heavily overhauled multiple sections of the model (vents, funnels, armour plating, windows and portholes, etc.). He used photoetch sets from multiple companies and paint from White Ensign Models. The result is this most excellent depiction of Hood as sunk in May 1941. This rendition of Trumpeter's 1/350 scale Hood is by Alberto Virtuani of Italy. He chose to depict the ship as she appeared at the time of her loss in May 1941. He did a great deal of research and consulted many key sources to include this website. He detailed the model using White Ensign Models photo etch set and paints. 1/350 Scale 1940 Hood by Colin Swager
Colin Swager of New Zealand sent in these photos. They show his Trumpeter 1/350 Hood which has been backdated to 1940.
In addition to making numerous detail corrections (i.e., addition/correction of various vents, internal funnel detail, etc.), he used elements from the Lion Roar, White Ensign Models, Eduard and Gold Medal Models photoetch sets. 1/700 Scale Hood Diorama by Paul Cadogan
This diorama was built by Paul Cadogan using a Tamiya 1/700 model. It depicts Hood in the Denmark Strait roughly three minutes before her fatal explosion. Phil decided to try something different with his Trumpeter 1/350th kit of Hood. Instead of completing Hood as sunk, he opted to depict her during her "heyday"- 1938. This was when she served with the Mediterranean Fleet. To backdate the kit, he had to incorporate over 60 modifications. He replaced the kit's 15" turrets with WEM turrets. 1/350 Scale Hood by Alexander Glass
Alex built this award-winning model (2nd place at the "11th German Model Masters 2009" in Nuernberg ) over several months using a variety of sources to include this website. he used the Lion Roar photoetch set as well as scratch-built parts for detailing. 1/350 Scale Hood by David Gatt
Dave detailed his Trumpeter 1/350 scale Hood using WEM's Photo Etch set and Tamiya paints. The main references he consulted were; Hood, Design and Construction by Maurice Northcott,Monografie Morskie 6 Hood, The Battlecruiser HOOD by John Roberts and The Battlecruiser HMS Hood by Bruce Taylor. The vast majority of the kit was built straight out of the box but he did make some modifications: He cut down the signal halyard trunks, parts E32, as they did not have the long tubing under the flaring above deck level. He will eventually replace the kit turrets with the resin replacement parts by WEM. Rigging was done using stretched sprue and mono-filament line. Click on the above photos to see enlarged versions.
1/350 Scale Hood by Dirk Ponge
This is Dirk Ponge's Trumpeter Hood. He built it using the waterline option. He incorporated White Ensign Models photoetch, a backdrop and ultra-detailed water (made from silicon) to make this exciting view of Hood at sea. He also incorporated 1/350 scale figures to represent Hood's crew. For references, he consulted the 3D-images of HMS Hood by Thomas Schmid and Bruce Taylor's book. 1/350 Scale Hood by Frank Spahr
Frank Spahr of Germany, sent in these photos of his Trumpeter 1:350 model of Hood as sunk. The model was built June–August, 2006 for reviews in two German modelling sites. He used major elements of the White Ensign Models photoetch set to detail the kit and base. For paint, he used various enamels from White Ensign Models (Antifouling Red), Humbrol (#145), and several Revell and Model shades for the wooden decks. He used the painting instructions from this very website. Weathering was minimal, with water colours being used exclusively. He corrected the turret tops with Mr Surfacer. He rigged the ship with stretched sprue. As a tribute to those who perished, he put only three crew figures on the model. These were positioned in the places where the three survivors escaped the ship. Frank recommends that if you are building this kit with the full hull, you should disregard the instructions and attach the lower hull at the start.

Hood Association member Colin Hall sent-in the above photos of his 1/400 Heller and 1/600 Airfix . Also shown in one shot is his 1/400 Heller Bismarck. Both models sport an aged appearance which he achieved by applying worn-looking decking colour. He also weathered the ships through the use of several media standard oil paints for the base mixed with an airbrush ink and a tint of whitewash before drying completely. 1/700 Scale Hood by Mark Hayward
Mark built this Tamiya 1/700 scale kit several years ago. He used the 1984 Scale Models article by MW Williams as a guide. That article was completely wrong about the deck colour of Hood, but it otherwise did offer many bona fide suggestions for detailing. Mark hand-made railings with wire and scored clear plastic strips. He rigged it by stretching sprue. The ocean water is painted Polyfilla. Mark plans on building a large scale Hood (not using the Williams article this time) in the near future.
1/400 Scale Hypothetical Post 1942 Refit Hood by Roger Meadows
Roger built this model using parts from a Heller 1/400 scale Hood kit and Heller 1/400 scale King George V kit. It shows Hood in one of the theoretical configurations she could have attained had she survived and been refitted in 1942. This is a fully working, radio-controlled motorised model. It is equipped with a 130 type motor powers each of the four propeller shafts, and is controlled by an electronic speed controller.
1/700 Scale Hood by Charles Landrum
Charles is a retired US Navy Commander. He built this model for Association member Bob Adamcik. Charles built the 1/700 Tamiya kit and detailed it using White Ensign Models photoetch and Testors Model Masters paint. He fabricated the rigging from brass wire, and the ocean/wave action from acrylic gel medium. This represents Hood in the moments just prior to her loss.
1/400 Scale Hood by Les Foran

This detailed Tamiya kit was built by Sami Arim of Walnut Creek, California. He detailed the kit using White Ensign Models' Hood photoetch as well as through scratch-building. Notable scratch-built efforts included the main mast, side armour belt and much deck scribing.
